Integrating Technology into Teaching
Term:
Spring 2003
Instructor:
Winthrop Rice
Course Description:
Time is spent in this course exploring technology and soft-ware tools, creating instructional materials with different software, tools, and learning how to integrate such tools into teaching and learning.
Learning Objectives:
Unfortunately, I cannot find a copy of the course syllabus, and Win, God rest his soul, has passed on. Fortunately, my organization skills and filing got better as I continued in my degree.... (Thanks, Phil!)
Dissemination Strategy :
Face-to-face class with supplemental resources provided on WebCT.
Course Reflection:
This was my second class in the program. What really stuck with me about Win's class was the use of PowerPoint "like" presentations, whether you are using PowerPoint or not. He concentrated on the concept of "chuncking" presentations, even if presentations were on a web page. He insisted that people should not have to scroll side-to-side or up and down to see a full presentation. As I've progressed, I see that this rings true more and more. I believe having smaller chuncks of information on multiple pages also encourages the learner / viewer to interact with the information. They have to decide whether or not to "click" to the next page or not.
During this class we worked with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and learned about making web pages (web pages could be made with the user's choice of editing software). We also researched and reported on an educational technology issue.
Assignments / Projects:
| 1. Intro to PowerPoint Presentation | 2. Educational Technology Issue Reseach Paper |
Final Grade: A
