Course Description:

Theories of instruction and learning, factors affecting human learning, youth through adult, with implications for the design and management of instruction.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course, you should be able to...

  1. Define epistemology, philosophy, theory, learning theory, instructional theory, instructional development, and instructional design.
  2. List major learning and instructional theories and theorists.
  3. List critical attributes of each learning theory.
  4. Develop instructional principles inspired by each learning theory.
  5. Apply each learning theory to the design of instructional materials.
  6. Compare and contrast the various learning and instructional theories.
  7. Describe a given learning situation using different learning theories.

Dissemination Strategy :

Face-to-face class.

Course Reflection:

This class was one of the most important for me. It defined the various learning theories. Interestingly, I remembered quite a bit from all those psych classes. It is absolutely necessary to start with this kind of understanding before you even think about how to design effective instruction.
